What are common causes of intestinal obstruction?

Various types of intestinal obstruction following reasons;

(A) of the mechanical intestinal obstruction

(1) parenteral factors: ① adhesion and adhesion with the pressure. Adhesions can cause intestinal folding, reverse, resulting in obstruction. More seen in children with congenital adhesions, abdominal surgery and abdominal adhesions resulting inflammation are usually observed in adults. ② incarcerated external hernia, or internal hernia. ③ intestinal tumors or abdominal mass oppression. ④ volvulus. As the result of constant adhesion.

(2) causes intestinal itself: ① narrow and closed-cell congenital deformities. ② inflammation, cancer, anastomosis, and other factors caused by the narrow. Such as inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal tuberculosis, radiation damage, intestinal cancer, intestinal anastomosis. ③ intussusception. Adults is less common, often caused by polyps or other lesions.

(3) intestine reasons: Because roundworms into the group, gallstones, fecal material and foreign body, are not common.

(B) dynamic obstruction

(1) PSP: After major abdominal surgery, peritonitis, abdominal trauma, retroperitoneal bleeding, anesthetic, pneumonia, empyema, systemic hypokalemia and other metabolic disorders can cause intestinal paralysis.

(2) seizure of: inflammatory bowel disease and neurological disorders can lead to temporary intestinal spasms.

(C) vascular ileus

Mesenteric artery embolism or thrombosis and mesenteric vein thrombosis is the main reason.

Intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a kind of signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction, but no evidence of mechanical obstruction syndrome, which can be acute and chronic, more and more attention in recent years, generally considered to be the result of intestinal muscle and nerve degeneration. Connective tissue disease, primary myopathy, certain endocrine diseases, nervous system diseases and some drugs can cause secondary intestinal pseudo-obstruction, intestinal pseudo-obstruction of the primary reasons for not very clear.
